RUN Welcomes Announcement of Additional Student Places for Rural-trained Medical Students

4 July 2023

The Regional Universities Network (RUN) welcomes today’s announcement for additional Commonwealth supported places (CSPs) for rural-trained medical students and capital funding for new regional training facilities.

RUN’s Executive Director, Alec Webb, said the Albanese Government’s further support for CSPs and regional training facilities will boost the current regional health skills shortage that the nation is currently facing.

“Regional Australians are not receiving the health and medical services that they require, due to the shortage of health professionals working and living in our regions.

“Providing clinical training opportunities for medical students in regional areas will entice students to continue their practice in rural areas whilst also providing communities with better access to essential health and medical services.

“We look forward to continuing to work with the government to ensure the ongoing prosperity of regional Australia”. said Mr Webb.
