The re-appointment of the Hon. Fiona Nash as the Regional Education Commissioner has been warmly received by the Regional Universities Network (RUN).
RUN Chief Executive Officer Alec Webb said the continuation of Ms Nash in the important role has reaffirmed a bipartisan commitment to advancing the case of regional education in Australia.
“RUN congratulates the Australian Government, and Minister Clare for recognising the incredible difference that Ms Nash has been making to the students and communities of regional, rural, and remote Australia and reappointing her for a further two years.
“Since her initial appointment as the country’s inaugural Regional Education Commissioner back in 2021, Ms Nash has been a pivotal and highly influential voice for regional Australians, advocating on their behalf and the unique education challenges and opportunities they face.
“Ms Nash, as the Regional Education Commissioner, was appointed an eminent, expert panellist on the Australian Universities Accord (the Accord), a once in a generation review of Australia’s tertiary education system.
“The prominence of higher education issues facing regional students and their universities in the Accord’s Final Report is testament to the detailed policy understanding that Ms Nash has, and the respect she holds, within the sector.
“The Regional Universities Network will continue to work constructively with Ms Nash during her extended tenure as the Regional Education Commissioner, and we thank the Australian Government for their continued elevation of regional education matters,” Mr Webb said.
