The Regional Universities Network (RUN) welcomes the appointment of Professor Geraldine Mackenzie as the next Vice-Chancellor of the University of Southern Queensland (USQ).

The Chair of RUN, Professor Greg Hill, said that Professor Mackenzie’s knowledge and experience of regional universities, including in her current role as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) at Southern Cross University, would be very valuable to the group.

“Professor Mackenzie has made a significant contribution to the collaboration across RUN. She has chaired the RUN DVC/PVC Research Group and the RUN Executive Women Group. In addition, she has taken on important roles in the sector, including membership of the Universities Australia (UA) Research Group board, and has been Co-Chair of the UA Executive Women Group.

“Professor Janet Verbyla has served as Vice-Chancellor of USQ pending the appointment of the new Vice-Chancellor, and we thank her for her contribution,” Professor Hill said.

“The appointment of Professor Mackenzie will continue the 50 per cent representation of women amongst RUN’s Vice-Chancellors. I am delighted that we are the first Australian university group to reach this aspirational target.”
