The Regional Universities Network (RUN) is deeply disappointed at the failure of the Government’s higher education reforms to pass the Senate.
The Chair of RUN, Professor Peter Lee, said that universities are too important to the nation to be used in a partisan way as a political football.
“The higher education sector urgently needs the issue of its sustainable funding to be resolved,” Professor Lee said.
“Regional universities have an important role in developing regional Australia for the good of the nation. We must continue to raise the participation of regional Australians in higher education.
“This impasse will not help our regions, students or institutions.
“We urge the Government and Senate to resolve this impasse as a matter of priority,” Professor Lee said.
