The Regional Universities Network has welcomed the unification of the science and research portfolio with tertiary education and skills in today's Federal Ministry reshuffle.

"The Regional Universities Network looks forward to working with Senator Chris Evans as he takes up his expanded portfolio," Professor David Battersby, RUN Chair and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ballarat, said.

"Minister Evans has expressed his strong support for regional universities and, along with the Prime Minister, recently announced the outcomes of the Structural Adjustment Fund applications.

"Collectively, all six member universities of RUN will receive $240 million in support from the Structural Adjustment Fund. We are greatly encouraged by that.

"The Network also acknowledges the significant contribution that Senator Kim Carr made as the Industry, Innovation, Science and Research Minister and his commitment to the university sector.

"His championing of the Collaborative Research Network initiative was one of his many achievements.

"The Network now looks forward to working with Minister Combet as part of his new responsibilities for Industry and Innovation. Indeed, we are keen to work with the new Federal Ministry as a whole to promote regional universities throughout the nation."
