NEWS DIARY NOTE: The Regional Universities Network will hold a simultaneous policy launch (with videolinks) at sites in Ballarat, Canberra, Lismore, Armidale, Toowoomba, Rockhampton and the Sunshine Coast on Wednesday, March 13 at 10am (AEDST). Media are welcome to attend any of these sites.
Attention Chiefs of Staff: You should consider sharing coverage of this event with affiliates in regional Australia.
For Canberra-based media the launch will be at Level 5, Tower A, 7 London Circuit, Canberra ACT 2601 with video links to the main campus launch in Ballarat and simultaneous campus launches at each of the member universities.
WHY: With two-thirds of the nation’s economic assets and productive activity located outside Australia’s capital cities, along with one-third of the population, the economic and social wellbeing of regional Australia is crucial to the success of the nation.
Regional Universities Network (RUN) Chair Professor David Battersby will launch a policy plan – Smarter Regions, Smarter Australia – which details a variety of ways in which government can unlock the full human potential of regional Australia. It continues the conversation started by Universities Australia’s policy plan launched on February 27, but with a particular focus on how the regions can fit into the big picture.
Professor Battersby and the other Vice-Chancellors will be available for one-on-one interviews afterwards, either in person or by telephone.
